This is a genuine pair of British Second World War campaign medals that tell the story of service both overseas and at home.
The first medal is the 1939–1945 Star, awarded to those who took part in active operations during the war. Its powerful design shows a lion standing triumphant over a defeated dragon — a clear symbol of Britain and her allies overcoming the Axis powers.
The second is the Defence Medal, given to those who served in the United Kingdom or in non-operational theatres overseas. It features a crowned oak tree flanked by lions, representing the strength and resilience of the nation during the long years of conflict on the home front.
These two medals were frequently awarded together to men and women whose service spanned both the fighting fronts and the vital work carried out back in Britain. Together they form a meaningful and evocative set from one of the most significant periods in modern history.
Both medals retain good detail.
