Welcome to Novel Relics. By browsing our site and placing an order you agree to the following terms. We have tried to keep them as straightforward and human as possible — if anything is unclear please get in touch at hello@novelrelics.co.uk and we will be happy to explain.
About Us
Novel Relics is a small independent shop based in North Yorkshire, selling rare and collectible books, antiques, jewellery and curious finds. Every item is personally sourced by our team and described as honestly and accurately as we can.
Accuracy of Listings
We take enormous care in describing every item we sell — including condition, age, provenance and any imperfections. Where we are unable to confirm something with certainty we will say so clearly in the listing. Photographs are of the actual item you will receive unless otherwise stated. Colours may vary slightly between screens but we do our best to represent items faithfully. If you would like additional photographs or information about any item before purchasing, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
Pricing
All prices are listed in pounds sterling and include VAT where applicable. We reserve the right to amend prices at any time, but any order confirmed at checkout will be honoured at the price shown at the time of purchase.
Payment
We accept payment via all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna. All payments are processed securely through Shopify Payments. We do not store your card details.
Orders
When you place an order you will receive a confirmation email to the address you provided at checkout. This confirmation does not guarantee availability — in the rare event that an item has sold between your order and our processing, we will contact you immediately and issue a full refund. As many of our items are one of a kind, we are unable to offer substitutions.
Make an Offer
Many items on our site include a Make an Offer button. We love the spirit of a good haggle — it is part of what makes an antique shop an antique shop.
Here is how it works. Click the Make an Offer button on any eligible product and a short form will appear asking for your name, email address, your offer amount and an optional message. Submitting an offer does not commit you to a purchase, and we are under no obligation to accept. We aim to respond to all offers within 24 to 48 hours.
If we accept your offer, we will email you a unique voucher code that reduces the product to the agreed price. This voucher is valid for 3 days from the date of issue — simply return to the product page, add the item to your cart and apply the code at checkout. If the voucher expires before you complete your purchase the offer is no longer valid and the item returns to its original listed price.
If we decline your offer we will let you know — and if we think there is room to meet in the middle we may come back to you with a counter offer. No pressure, no hard feelings, and the conversation is always welcome.

Intellectual Property
All content on this site — including product descriptions, photographs, logos and design — is the property of Novel Relics and may not be reproduced, copied or used without our written permission. Our product descriptions are written by hand and we take pride in them. Please do not copy them.
Limitation of Liability
We do our best to describe every item accurately, but we are a small independent shop and not a professional auction house or valuation service. Any historical, biographical or provenance information provided in our listings is offered in good faith based on our own research and should not be relied upon as professional appraisal or authentication. If you require formal authentication or valuation of any item we are happy to recommend appropriate specialists.
Your Privacy
We respect your privacy and handle your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We will never sell, share or misuse your data. We only use your information to process your orders and keep you informed about Novel Relics if you have opted in to our newsletter.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page. Continued use of the site after changes have been posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
